Psychotherapy and Counselling
Counselling
aims to help you help yourself, by understanding why you feel the way
you do, and by exploring and planning how you manage emotional and
practical realities. It supports you in making the right decisions for
yourself, but not by yourself and gives you the space to explore who
you are and what really matters to you.
Talking
to someone helps you to see the problem more clearly, and enables you
to explore all the possible solutions. You can then face up to and
learn to work through the causes of your distress and/or anxiety.
Psychotherapy looks at the patterns you may have learnt in earlier life, and enables you to understand why you may follow these patterns of behaviour, sometimes to the detriment of your well-being. As children we are subject to the hopes, fears, ideas and actions of the adults around us. We trust that the people around us know what is best for us. Very often this is the case, but sometimes the messages we learn are not helpful to us, and by identifying what those messages might have been, we can learn to accept ourselves and move on in our lives. As
your counsellor I will work in a way that enables you to believe in
yourself and to trust your own judgement. Empowering you to take
control of your life.
